HAWKS' FLY SOUTH FOR REMATCH IN THE HIGH COUNTRY

May 16, 2017 - National Arena League (NAL)
Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release

Allentown, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks make their second journey to Boone, North Carolina to take on the High Country Grizzlies in the second of three meetings between the teams. Kickoff is at 7:00pm on Saturday, May 20th. Fans will be able to view the game through a YouTube streamed broadcast.

Round one between these two teams saw the Steelhawks (6-1) claim a narrow victory off a last minute touchdown and last second defensive stop of the Grizzlies (3-3). That Week Three game featured four lead changes as the teams battled back and forth the whole game.

Lehigh Valley was led by a QB Warren Smith Jr. to WR Darius Prince connection that led to two touchdowns and 98 yards of offense. The Steelhawks offensive line struggled that day, giving up six sacks; but they have not given up more than two sacks in a game since. Defensively, the 'Hawks only got in the backfield for two sacks; more recently, opponents backfields have been loaded with buzzing Steelhawks as they have tallied seven sacks in the last two games.

High Country's quarterback Stephen Panasuk found his favorite target, WR Malachi Jones on the night ten separate times for 107 yards and two touchdowns. League rushing leader, FB Undra Hendrix has continued to be a redzone weapon, as he contributed 27 yards of offense and a touchdown in the first meeting; High Country has eleven rushing touchdowns in the redzone (Hendrix has nine). The Grizzlies defense line has stayed consistent enough to currently lead the league in sacks (24).

Both teams fought and seemed fairly evenly matched in round one. But since that game, the Steelhawks have rolled, winning the last four in a row. High Country has had a rougher go of things, going two and two. A key battle in this round two will be in the trenches as both defensive lines have been adept at disrupting offenses lately.

The Steelhawks have a bye over Memorial Day weekend and then will have their final regular season home game on Saturday, June 3rd on Embassy Bank Field inside the PPL Center, for a 7:00pm kickoff. In what will be back to back matchups, the High Country Grizzlies make the journey to the Valley for round three in a game that will have playoff implications. Should the Steelhawks win two of their final three games they would play host to a First Round Playoff contest.

Individual and group game packages to watch the Steelhawks play inside the PPL Center for their final regular home contest are on sale now.
