Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks fell 5-3 to the Everett Silvertips Tuesday at the Moda Center in Game 3 of their first round playoff series. The Silvertips now lead the series 3-0, with Game 4 tomorrow at the Moda Center at 7 p.m.
Everett struck first on a goal by Patrick Bajkov 1:06 into the game for a 1-0 lead. They added a late goal with 18.8 seconds remaining in the period on a goal by Dawson Leedahl to make it 2-0 heading into the second.
The Silvertips extended the lead when Remi Laurencelle scored on a power play at 6:53 of the second as they took a 3-0 lead. But the Hawks' offense then ignited, as they struck for three goals in just under five minutes.
It started at 13:23 during four-on-four play when Skyler McKenzie popped the puck loose in the Everett zone with a strong forecheck. Caleb Jones picked it up and left a drop pass between his legs for Rihards Bukarts, who beat netminder Mario Petit with a one-timer to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Everett responded 2:01 later when Brycen Martin scored as they took a 4-1 lead, but Alex Schoenborn redirected the puck past Petit at 16:45 to again get the Hawks within two at 4-2. Then at 18:17, Cody Glass made it a one-goal game with his first career playoff marker to cut the deficit to 4-3 heading into the third period.
The Hawks controlled play through much of the period as they fought for the equalizer, but with under a minute to go and the Hawks on a power play, Everett's Matt Fonteyne scored into an open net to seal the 5-3 win.
Game 4 is tomorrow night at the Moda Center at 7 p.m.
