Hawks Add Veteran Goalie

Waterloo, Iowa-The Waterloo Black Hawks have acquired goaltender Cameron Johnson from the Fargo Force in exchange for Mathias Israelsson, the teams announced Wednesday.
A 19-year-old from Troy, Michigan, Johnson is in his second United States Hockey League season. Although he appeared in only 20 of Fargo's first 31 games this year, Johnson has faced the sixth-highest shot total of any goalie in the league while posting a 90.9% save percentage. He owned a mark of 2-14-3 for the last place Force.
"This trade came about with the concurrence of a player looking for a new opportunity at the same moment we had a chance to make the Black Hawks better," said Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. "Cal Petersen has been one of the best goaltenders in the league this season; he's been one of the most significant parts of our success so far, and Cameron Johnson should be a terrific compliment to him."
Committed to the University of North Dakota, Johnson split time in the Fargo net during 2012/13, posting a 14-8-6 record with a 3.10 goals-against average and 90.8% save percentage. The 6-1, 199-pound netminder was also a significant contributor during Fargo's run to the Clark Cup Championship Series last spring. He earned four of the Force's six postseason victories - including a 1-0 road shutout in Game Three of the Western Conference Finals versus the Sioux Falls Stampede - raising his save percentage to 93.1%. Johnson's playoff debut came on short notice in Game Five of the first round series against the Black Hawks, a contest he won 4-3 in overtime with 34 saves.
Israelsson appeared in ten games for Waterloo, going 6-3-0 with a 90.6% save percentage.
As part of the trade, Waterloo also dealt affiliate forward Andrew Zerban - who appeared for the Hawks once this season - and 2014 USHL Draft considerations to Fargo.
The Black Hawks' next four games will be played on the road, beginning Friday in Youngstown. Waterloo travels to Fargo to finish the stretch with a pair of games against the Force next weekend.
