Havoc Upset Augusta In Round One

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc pulled the only upset in the first round of the SPHL Playoffs by knocking off the regular season champion Augusta RiverHawks 2-1 in the best of three series.

Wednesday, March 28 - Huntsville 3, Augusta 3, OT

AUGUSTA, GA - The Augusta RiverHawks tied the game at 3-3 with :12 left in the third period and then won the game on a Matt Auffrey goal with 5:05 left in the first overtime.

Dennis Sicard put the Havoc on the board first with 13:00 left in the first period. Auffrey tied the game at 1-1 with 11:45 left. Rick Schrank put the Havoc back up 2-1 with a powerplay goal with 9:31 remianing before Neil Graham tied it back up with 6:55 to go in the first.

Colin Reddin put the Havoc up 3-2 with 8:24 left in the third period before Graham tied the game at 3-3 with the extra attacker at the 19:48 mark.

Mark Sibbald made 29 saves in the loss while Peter Skoggard made 31 in the win.

Friday, March 30 - Augusta 3, Huntsville 4 - OT

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Mike MacDonald scored with 13:37 left in overtime giving the Huntsville Havoc a 4-3 win over the Augusta RiverHawks in game two of the first round of the SPHL playoffs Friday night.

Colin Reddin scored with :51 left in the third period with the extra attacker to the tie the game at 3-3. Augusta had scored with :12 left on Wednesday night to the tie game one at 3-3 before winning 4-3 in overtime.

Edgar Mironov put Augusta on the board first with 2:13 gone in the second period. Reddin scored his first goal of the night just over a minute later to tie the game at 1-1. Justin Fox but the Havoc up 2-1 with 14:58 left in the period. Matt Auffrey tied the game at 2-2 with 12:15 left in period two.

Jim Gehring put Augusta up 3-2 with 14:36 left in the third period setting up the tying and winning goals.

Mark Sibbald made 32 saves in the win while Jon Olthuis made 23 in the loss.

Saturday, March 31 - Huntsville 6, Augusta 2

AUGUSTA, GA - The Huntsville Havoc got six goals from six different players on their way to a 6-2 win over the top seeded Augusta RiverHawks. The Havoc will now advance to the second round of the SPHL playoffs and will take on the second seeded Columbus Cottonmouths.

The Havoc jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by Justin Fox, Stuart Stefan and Ray Ortiz.

Dennis Sicard added a second period goal and the Havoc took a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.

Drew Baker scored early in the third period to cut the lead to 4-1 but Colin Reddin answered and pushed the lead back to four goals at 4-1. Jim Gehring cut the lead back to 5-2 with 8:57 left but Mike MacDonald answered with a powerplay goal a little over a minute later.

Mark Sibbald made 25 saves in the win. Peter Skoggard got the start in net for Augusta and allowed three goals and made four saves in 6:42 of action. Jon Olthius replaced him and allowed three goals and made 27 saves.
