WATERLOO, IA - The Madison Capitols scored five unanswered goals in the third period for a 5-1 win over the Waterloo Black Hawks at Young Arena on Saturday night.

Madison (3-4-0-0) is tied for sixth place in the Eastern Conference with six points. Waterloo (4-3-0-0) is ranked third in the Western Conference with eight points.

Left wing Verners Egle scored an unassisted goal at 4:14 of the third period. Egle grabbed the puck at Waterloo's blueline and skated in on the goaltender all alone. Egle sent a backhand between the legs of goaltender Jared Moe for his fourth goal of the season, and a 2-1 advantage.

At 6:51 of the first period, center Jackson Cates put the Black Hawks on the board with his third goal of the season. Defenseman Michael Ferrandino shot the puck from the right point that traveled through bodies toward Capitols goaltender Dryden McKay. The puck bounced off of bodies including right wing Ben Copeland, before sliding through the crease for Cates to bury into the net.

Following a scoreless second period, the Capitols started off the third stanza with two tallies to take the lead. Right wing Ryan O'Reilly picked up his fourth goal of the season at 1:27 of the final frame. Center Anthony Callin passed the puck to left wing Mick Messner as he crossed into the Black Hawks zone. Messner carried the puck down the left wing before dropping it back to O'Reilly in the left face-off circle. O'Reilly snapped a wrist shot past Moe to tie the game at 1-1.

At 7:21 of the third period, left wing Alec Broetzman netted his third tally of the season to give Madison a 3-1 lead. Defenseman Branden Suter tossed the puck through the Black Hawks' crease. Left wing Brandon Walkom picked up the loose puck on the right doorstep and slid it over to Broetzman in the slot for the snipe into the back of the net for the power play tally.

Center Cade Borchardt finished off the scoring with his first career USHL goal at14:27 of the final frame. Broetzman passed the puck from behind the net to Borchardt who was stationed in the slot. Borchardt wrist home the puck for a 4-1 advantage. Forward Kamil Sadlocha also assisted on the fourth Capitols goal.

Messner finished off the scoring with an empty net goal at 18:17 of the final period.

McKay (3-3-0) earned his third win of the season by stopping 49-of-50 shots. Moe (2-2-0) took his second loss of the season while stopping 17 saves on 21 shots.

Madison was 1-for-3 on the power play. Waterloo went 0-for-4 with the man advantage

Notables: Goaltender Dryden McKay stopped a season-high 49-of-50 shots...Left wings Alec Broetzman and Mick Messner both collected two points (1-12) tonight.Center Cade Borchardt scored his first USHL goal.Right wing Ryan O'Reilly and left wing Verners Egle now lead the team with four goals each.

The Capitols continue on the road when they take on the Des Moines Buccaneers at the Buccaneer Arena at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, November 3. The team returns home to host the Omaha Lancers at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, November 4. The next home game is also a $1 Beer Night!
