Tennessee Smokies News Release

SEVIERVILLE - The Smokies found themselves leading the Lookouts 2-1 headed into the fourth frame thanks to a two-run home run by of CF Jacob Hannemann in the third inning, but the Lookouts answered and won the contest by a count of 4-2 on Monday night.

The Smokies fall to 27-37 on the year with the loss while Chattanooga improves to 33-31 with their series-winning victory.

On just the fifth pitch of the contest the Lookouts took a 1-0 lead thanks to CF Zach Granite (2-4, HR, RBI, R, BB) sending a 3-2 pitch over the right field wall for his third home run of the season.

Chattanooga's one-run advantage wouldn't last long as the Smokies managed to grab the lead in the third. LF Bijan Rademacher (1-3, R, BB, SO) led off the frame with a ground-rule double bringing Hannemann (2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R) to the dish. The former Brigham Young standout caught a fastball on a 1-1 count and sent it over the right field wall to hand Tennessee a 2-1 lead.

The Lookouts answered back immediately as they picked up a run in both the fourth and fifth innings. 1B D.J. Hicks (2-3, RBI, BB) drove a double to right driving in LF Travis Harrison (0-4, 2 R, 2 BB, SO) who led off the fourth by drawing a walk. Chattanooga's tally in the fifth came via another lead off solo home run, this one off of the bat of 2B Levi Michael (1-4, RBI, R, 2 SO) handing the Lookouts a 3-2 advantage.

Despite giving up the two home runs, RHP Tyler Skulina (6.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 SO, 2 BB, 2 HR), with a little help from his defense, settled into the game in his six innings of work. The former Kent State standout was able to strike out six Lookouts and force them into inning ending double plays in both the third and fourth innings.

The Smokies gave the ball to RHP David Garner to begin the seventh and he was able to retire the side in order. Garner (2.0 IP, H, R, ER, SO, 2 BB) found himself in trouble in the eighth inning that began with a free pass to Harrison. After striking out Garver he gave up another walk to Hicks before 3B Leo Reginatto (2-3, RBI) sent a ground ball into left field driving in Harrison giving the Lookouts a 4-2 lead.

The Lookouts made a pitching change in the seventh as well as RHP Jake Reed (2.0 IP, 2 SO, 2 BB) came on in relief for RHP Aaron Slegers. Slegers (6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 SO, 4 BB, HR) was extremely effective after giving up the two-run blast from Hannemann as he picked up six of his seven K's on the night in his final four innings of work.

Reed walked 1B Victor Caratini (0-3, BB) to begin his outing but didn't allow the Smokies to capitalize as he got RF Billy McKinney (0-2, 2 BB) to ground out and C Ben Carhart (1-4, SO) to ground into an inning ending double play.

RHP James Farris made his Double-A debut as he took the mound for Tennessee in the ninth and the 24-year-old made quick order of the Lookouts in getting three straight ground outs.

Chattanooga turned to RHP Trevor HIldenberger (1.0 IP, H, SO) to close out the contest and the California native did just that despite giving up a two-out single from 2B Daniel Lockhart (1-4, 2 SO).

The Smokies and Lookouts will conclude their five-game series Tuesday afternoon with the first pitch from Smokies Stadium set for 12:05 p.m. ET. The Smokies are set to give the mound to RHP Jen-Ho Tseng (1-2, 4.07 ERA) while the Lookouts will give the ball to RHP Kohl Stewart (1-0, 4.70 ERA).
