St. Lucie Mets News Release

JUPITER, Fla. (July 10, 2017) - The Jupiter Hammerheads shut out the St. Lucie Mets 3-0 on Monday at Roger Dean Stadium.

The teams ended up splitting their four-game series after the Mets won the first two games.

Jupiter used four pitchers to register the shutout. Starter Jeff Brigham stifled the Mets over six innings. He scattered four singles, did not walk a batter and struck out nine.

Relievers Evan Beal, Jose Quijada and Felipe Gonzalez each tossed a scoreless frame to finish out the contest.

The Hammerheads scored the only run they needed off of Major League rehabber Josh Smoker in the second inning. Dustin Geiger started the inning with a double and went on to score on a ground out by Stone Garrett.

Smoker allowed one run and two singles in two innings. He struck out two.

The Mets had a chance to tie the game in the seventh. Peter Alonso and Tim Tebow started the inning with singles off of Beal. Wuilmer Becerra followed with a sac bunt to move up runners. But Anthony Dimino followed with a grounder to third base and Miguel Rojas threw out Alonso at the plate to preserve the 1-0 Jupiter lead. Beal then got J.C. Rodriguez to ground out to end the threat.

Justin Dunn took over on the mound after Smoker departed. He was effective and efficient over his first five innings, collecting two double play balls. However, he surrendered a two-out homer to Zach Sullivan with one out in the eighth inning to put the Hammerheads up 3-0.

Dunn ended up allowing two runs on four hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Tebow's single in the seventh inning extended his hitting streak to nine games. He's reached safely in all 14 games with St. Lucie.

Patrick Mazeika went 3 for 4.

The Mets (5-13) are off on Tuesday. They will return to action on Wednesday when they start a three-game series against the Daytona Tortugas. First pitch from First Data Field on Wednesday is 6:30 p.m.
