Hamilton Cardinals Announce the Re-Signing of Seven Players

April 24, 2017 - Intercounty Baseball League (ICBL)
Hamilton Cardinals News Release

Hamilton Cardinals' general manager Dean Dicenzo announced today the re-signing of seven players for the upcoming Intercounty Baseball League season. Players returning to the club include Jon Saporsantos, David Vanderby, Marcus Dicenzo, Connor Bowie, Nate Mastervick, Darek Bishop and Kyle Adoranti.

Saporsantos is returning to the Cardinals after play just four games last season due to an injury that kept him sidelined for much of the season. With the 29-year-old back, the team will rely on him for his veteran leadership on and off the field for the 2017 season.

Vanderby is returning for his second full IBL season. The middle infielder had 15 hits over the 24 games he appeared in last season, collecting a pair of doubles. The Hamilton native will look to improve on his numbers while giving the Cardinals some added depth up the middle of the infield.

Dicenzo is entering his fourth season with the Cardinals franchise. The 5' 10" native of Hamilton is coming off his best season where he collected an IBL career high 22 hits and had a .232 batting average. This season will see Dicenzo play his 100th career IBL game (regular and post seasons combined).

Bowie is entering his second season with the IBL Cardinals. Last year the Ancaster native played in eight games. The 23-year-old returns to the team to get a full season under his belt after being a spokesman for Sleeman's Railside products last summer. In 2015, Bowie was named the AMCC Baseball Player of the Year while playing for Mount Aloysius College.

Mastervick played 14 games over the 2016 IBL season which did not start well for the outfielder. In the first game of the season he broke his finger while attempting to steal a base in Guelph which caused him to miss much of the season. The Niagara Falls native will look to make an impact in his third season with the club.

Bishop returns for his second season with the Cardinals. The pitcher-catcher appeared in eight games, with one of those appearances being on the mound against the Toronto Maple Leafs. In that game, he threw one pitch to record the final defensive out for Hamilton.

Adoranti is returning for his fifth season and will serve as one of the captains of the Cardinals this year. The lefty Hamilton native will look to lead the pitching staff for the upcoming season. Over his five season in the IBL, Adoranti has pitched in 120 innings over 66 regular and post season games while collecting 83 strikeouts.

The Hamilton Cardinals will open the 99th Intercounty Baseball League season on Saturday May 13th when they travel to Guelph to face the Royals at David Hastings Stadium starting at 2:00 PM.
