Hall of Famer Tom Glavine Headlines 2017 Hot Stove Banquet

CHARLESTON, SC - Two Cy Young Awards, a World Series ring, and over 4,000 career innings as part of one of the most dominant teams of the last three decades: even one of these accolades can ensure a place in Cooperstown, but Tom Glavine can boast them all. The Braves Hall of Famer and one of the greatest left-handers to take the mound will be the honored guest at the Charleston RiverDogs' 13th Annual Hot Stove Banquet and Auction Presented by Tom McQueeney State Farm on Friday, January 27 at the Charleston Marriott Crystal Ballroom.

Welcoming a member currently enshrined in Cooperstown for the seventh consecutive year, the Hot Stove Banquet has become one of the most highly anticipated RiverDogs annual events. Past speakers include Bobby Cox, John Smoltz, Ryne Sandberg, Wade Boggs, and Goose Gossage in an event that brings baseball fans together to celebrate the magic of America 's favorite pastime.

Tom McQueeney State Farm Insurance is the presenting sponsor for the 10th consecutive year.

Proceeds from the Hot Stove Banquet benefit The Citadel, College of Charleston and Charleston Southern baseball scholarship funds.

Glavine, the two-time Cy Young Award winner, will share behind-the-scenes stories, answer questions and pose for pictures. The event will open with a silent auction beginning at 6pm that includes baseball memorabilia from past Hot Stove speakers, collectibles from RiverDogs Director of Fun Bill Murray, vacation packages and more. The program begins at 7pm.

As a player, Glavine enjoyed a dominant 22-year career in the Major Leagues with the Braves and the Mets, compiling 305 career wins while racking up 2,607 strikeouts in over 4,400 innings.

The Concord, Mass.-born southpaw was remarkably consistent over his career, recording 200 or more innings in 14 of his 22 years and compiling 20+ wins five times. Glavine still stands as the last Major League pitcher to garner three consecutive 20 win seasons, doing so from 1991-93.

Along with John Smoltz and Greg Maddux, Glavine was part of a dominant trio of future Hall of Fame starters that anchored the Braves over a decade of dominance in which Atlanta won 14 straight division titles from 1991-2005 including a World Series championship in 1995.

In his fifth season in 1991, the Braves' second round pick in 1984 posted a then-career-low 2.55 ERA while recording 192 strikeouts and a National League-leading nine complete games en route to the first of his two Cy Young accolades. Continuing to use his not overpowering fastball and wipeout changeup, Glavine would outdo himself seven years later, earning his second Cy Young to the tune of a 2.47 ERA with 157 punch outs and another 20-win season in 229.1 innings of work.

In 1995, Glavine showcased his Hall of Fame pedigree on the biggest stage, posted a 1.29 ERA in two starts in the October Classic to garner World Series MVP honors and led the Braves to their first title since 1957, their first in the city of Atlanta . Glavine would spend 15 years with the Braves before signing a four-year deal with the rival New York Mets in which he spent the 2003-2007 seasons before finishing his career in Atlanta in 2008.

On August 5, 2007 at Chicago 's Wrigley Field, Glavine became the 23rd pitcher and just the fifth lefty in Major League history to accrue 300 career wins. He was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2014, gathering 91.9 percent of the possible votes before being enshrined in the hall with his teammate Maddux and longtime skipper Bobby Cox.
