HALL HAT TRICK CUTS DOWN LUMBERJACKS

MUSKEGON, MI - The first USHL hat trick for Curtis Hall helped the Youngstown Phantoms (5-4-2-1, 13 points) hang on to defeat the Muskegon Lumberjacks 5-4 Sunday afternoon at LC Walker Arena.

"You play three games in three nights, that's a tough thing to do with travel," said Phantoms Head Coach Brad Patterson. "The guys held to our game plan for all three games and saw the results from it."

Youngstown opened the scoring 7:41 into the first period. Julian Kislin scored his first USHL goal, beating the glove of Adam Brizgala (27 saves) with a wrist shot from the right circle. Hall doubled the Phantoms' lead at 15:51, converting a wrist shot from almost the exact same spot as Kislin, for his third go al of the year and giving Youngstown a 2-0 lead.

Muskegon got on the board just under a minute later when Bobby Kaiser scored his second goal of the year, chipping a puck over a sprawled-out Ivan Prosvetov (31 saves) at 16:40, cutting the Phantoms' lead to 2-1.

Youngstown stretched the margin back to two at 12:48 of the second period on Hall's second goal of the night. Kislin stole a pass in the neutral zone and sent it ahead to Hall. Hall swooped across the blue line, and fired a wrist shot from the top of the right circle that beat Brizgala to the blocker side, giving Youngstown a 3-1 advantage. Tommy Parrottino gave Youngstown its first three-goal lead of the season at 1:31 of the third period. Parrottino tapped the puck into an open net after receiving a backdoor pass on a 2-on-1 rush with Hall. The play was made thanks to Steven Holtz taking a big hit at center to get the puck over to Hall and start the break.

Muskegon scored the next two goals to get back within one at 4-3. Nolan Sullivan scored his first USHL goal at 5:14 and Monte Graham scored his second of the year at 10:43, taking the puck directly to the net after winning a faceoff and beating Prosvetov.

Hall completed his hat trick, scoring goal number six of the season at 14:09. Hall broke up a play in the neutral zone and carried the puck down the middle of the ice, beating Brizgala over the glove with a wrist shot from the hashmarks, giving Youngstown a 5-3 lead. The goal came at even strength, one second after a penalty to Zach Metsa expired. All nine goals in the game were scored at even strength.

Muskegon got back within one on Graham's second goal of the game. Graham fired home the rebound of a Jachym Kondelik shot at 16:11 to make the deficit 5-4. Despite a late power play at 16:18 and pulling Brizgala for the extra attacker at 17:33, the Lumberjacks could not tie the game and the Phantoms held on for the victory.

Youngstown wraps up their five-game road trip 3-1-1-0, earning seven of a possible ten points. They'll return to the Covelli Centre for a three-game homestand that starts Friday night against the United States National Team Development Program's U18 squad. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm Eastern and broadcasts will be available on YPHR and HockeyTV.
