Hall Dazzles, Offense Explodes in 7-2 Win

MONTGOMERY, AL - One night after getting shutout while giving up 17 hits, the Biscuits (25-21) got eight scoreless frames from Jeremy Hall and used 14 hits to top the Smokies (28-19) 7-2 Thursday at Riverwalk.

The Smokies didn\'t collect their first hit off Hall until there were two outs in the fifth. Hall becomes the first Biscuits pitcher to pitch eight innings this season, and has now tossed back-to-back scoreless outings spanning a total of 15.0 frames. A seventh Biscuits shutout disappeared with Matt Spencer homered off Paul Phillips in the ninth.

The Biscuits\' bats came to life to record the second-highest hit-total of the season. Montgomery got single runs in the first, third, and fourth, then two in the fifth on a Matt Fields single and two in the eighth on an Emeel Salem triple.

JJ Furmaniak paced the Biscuits with his second three-hit game of the season, driving home a pair of runs. Nevin Ashley also went 3-4, and John Matulia recorded his team-leading twelfth multi-hit game with a 2-4 night.

Hall (2-2) struck out five while walking two, and after going winless over his first seven appearances, has now won his last two. Craig Muschko (2-2) took the loss for the Smokies, allowing five runs on a whopping ten hits in 4.1 tossed.

With Jacksonville\'s loss to Chattanooga, the Biscuits now trail the Suns by 4.0 in the South Division with 23 first half games remaining. LHP Jake McGee will look to pick up his first win on Friday night at 7:05 against RHP Chris Carpenter.
