Hajek Set to Represent Country Once Again
April 14, 2016 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
Libor Hajek is set to compete on the international stage once again as he and Team Czech Republic face off against Finland in the U18 World Championships tonight in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
This will be the 2nd time Hajek has competed at the U18 World Championships, getting his first taste last year in Switzerland, tallying a goal for the Czechs in fives games. Hajek is a familiar face when it comes to international play, representing his home country on multiple occasions including U17 & U18 World Championships as well as the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
Last year, as an underage player, Hajek impressed scouts as well as the Blades which was a key factor into the team selecting him 2nd overall in the 2015 CHL Import Draft. With Hajek already entrenched in the WHL and on NHL scout's lists, this tournament will be an audition of sorts for the U20 World Junior Championship team which he will look to make come December of this year.
Now another year older, the steady defenceman will be looked to be a presence on the blue line for the Czechs who look to return to their silver medal form of two years ago.
Hajek had an impressive rookie campaign in the WHL, collecting 3 goals and 23 assists to go along with 76 PIMS in 69 games all the while being a defensive rock on the Blades blue line. His strong season lead to him being ranked 31st among North American skaters in the most recent Central Scouting rankings. Many other scouting services are projecting Hajek to be a late 1st round pick in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft which takes place in Buffalo in June.
