Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
Norwich, CT - On Sunday, August 18th during the series finale between the Connecticut Tigers and Aberdeen IronBirds (Orioles), CT Tigers Director of Facilities and Turf Management, Bryan Barkley will be donating his hair through Pantene Beautiful Lengths and Make-A-Wish Foundation. Pantene Beautiful Lengths is a charity campaign that allows individuals to donate hair for women who have lost their own due to cancer treatment. Make-A-Wish grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.
It was over a year ago that Bryan decided he wanted to grow out his hair. Throughout the process of growing out his hair, Bryan has always wanted to donate his hair to a charitable organization that makes wigs for needing patients. His mother is a breast cancer survivor. After her chemo and radiation treatments she lost her hair. She had access to a natural wig which made a difference in her recovery and self-esteem.
This past year the CT Tigers lost their Home Clubby (2010-12), Travis Brennan who passed away from cancer. Travis suffered through the illness when he was at a young age. Make-A-Wish granted Travis the baseball trip of his dreams. Bryan is honoring his mother and the memory of Travis with the hairithon and fundraiser. If you would like to donate your hair then you can do so by coming to Dodd Stadium on August 18th. Antenna Salon of Norwich, CT will do the initial cut and styling.
For more information on how you can donate or be apart of the hairithon please visit cttigers.com as well as Bryan's web page at http://friends.wish.org/054-000/page/Bryan-B/Together-We-Can-Make-Wishes-Come-True!.htm. You can also contact Bryan directly at bryan@cttigers.com or 860-887-7962 x116.
The CT Tigers are teaming up with the Norwich Bulletin and Make-A-Wish to present the "Travis Brennan Award" to a deserving CT Tigers player, as well as a local youth athlete. People can nominate local youth through the Norwich Bulletin website to win the award as well as voting on the Tigers player who best deserves the award. The Norwich Bulletin will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for every vote received!
