Hagerstown Suns To Celebrate Asterisk Night

(Hagerstown, MD) - On Wednesday, August 1st the Hagerstown Suns will pay tribute to the asterisk. Defined as a star-shaped figure (*) used chiefly to indicate an omission, a reference to a footnote, or an unattested word, sound, or affix; the use of an asterisk is often debated, but until now, never celebrated.

The Hagerstown Suns would like to invite all baseball fans out to a day* of excitement. On August 1st, the first 756 fans to come through the gates at Municipal Stadium will receive an Official Asterisk Fan Club card. Each card will have an asterisk that references a footnote on the bottom of the card. Throughout the night the Suns will announce winning footnotes and reward fans with prizes*2.

Fans will also have the opportunity to participate in "asterisk symbol" face painting*3, provided by the Suns promotional crew, "The Sunsations". For one night only an asterisk-shaped cake made of hot dogs will be available for purchase. All regular hot dog pricing will be inflated to $7.56*4 on August 1st.

"For some reason a lot of people are talking about asterisks this year," said Suns Assistant General Manager C.J. Johnson. "Hopefully having this celebration will encourage use of asterisks and lead to a new appreciation for this important literary tool."

* day of excitement actually means a night of excitement with the Suns. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

*2 Prizes include a 2007 team autographed baseball, Suns caps and various other Suns prize packs.

*4 All regular hot dogs will have a $7.56 face value, however, the price will be reduced to $3.00 with display of Asterisk Fan Club card. Fans without the card will receive a one-night waiver and will be offered the same discount.
