Gyorko Earns Spot On Arizona Fall League Top Prospect Team
San Antonio - Missions third baseman Jedd Gyorko has been named to the Arizona Fall League's 2011 Top Prospects Team as a designated hitter.
Gyorko, who played in 18 games for the Peoria Javelinas, led the Arizona Fall League in hitting at .437 (31-for-71) and also led the circuit in on-base percentage (.500), OPS (1.204) while finishing second in slugging percentage (.704). Gyorko had a team-high five home runs and 22 RBI as Peoria finished with a 16-19 record.
Gyorko is considered the Padres' 11th best prospect according to Baseball America.
The 23-year old native of Morgantown, WV was promoted to San Antonio on July 4. In 59 games for the Missions this past season, he hit .288 (68-for-236) with 12 doubles, seven homers, 40 RBI, 41 runs scored, a .358 on-base percentage and a .428 slugging percentage.
Between Class-A Lake Elsinore and the Missions, Gyorko hit .333 (192-for-576) with 47 doubles, 25 home runs, 114 RBI and 119 runs scored. His 114 RBI was tied for the second-most in all of minor league baseball in 2011 while his 47 doubles were good for the fifth-most.
