Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (20-23-7) fell to the Texas Brahmas (25-17-8) on Friday night, a game in which the Bees fired 25 shots on net but all were turned away by Mark Guggenberger who recorded his third straight shutout.

The two teams played a scoreless first period with both goalies making a number of big saves for the respective teams.

Texas took a 1-0 lead in the second period as Chad Woollard and Jacques Perreault came in on a two-on-one. Woollard fed the puck across to Perreault who was able to get it above the stacked pads of Wylie Rogers.

The goal in the second would turn out to be the only strike of the game as the Brahmas would keep the Bees off the scoreboard for the rest of the game. The Bees had a few chances in the third including a number of power-play chances but all were turned away by the Brahmas goalie.

Mark Guggenberger is one of the hottest goalies in the league and recorded his third straight shutout, holding a 215:16 second scoreless streak.

The Bees are now 11 points behind Texas for the third spot in the Berry Conference. The Bees kept pace with the Tulsa Oilers and sit four points behind Tulsa for the final playoff spot.

The Killer Bees and Texas Brahmas will battle again Saturday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre at 7:30 p.m. Fans can follow the game on 956sports.com and CHL-TV.
