Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Eastlake, OH - RHP Taylor Guerrieri led the Bowling Green Hot Rods (33-29) to a 9-1 win against the Lake County Captains (20-40) on Sunday afternoon at Classic Park. Guerrieri fired six shutout innings and has yet to allow a run to the Captains in 11 innings pitched over two appearances. Hot Rod hitters Justin O'Conner and Tommy Coyle each recorded two-run home runs off Lake County.
Bowling Green opened its scoring in the second inning with three quick runs. Walks and a base hit loaded the bases for a Leonardo Reginatto sacrifice fly that scored Marty Gantt. Later in the inning with two outs, Andrew Toles hit a bloop single to left field, driving in Luke Maile and O'Conner for a 3-0 lead.
The Hot Rods went deep to add to their lead in the third. O'Conner nearly cleared the left field bleachers with a two-run blast that knocked Captains RHP Robbie Aviles out of the contest. Leonardo Reginatto reached with a bunt single off RHP Chad Penny and reached second base on a throwing error by Erik Gonzalez. Reginatto scored on a Patrick Leonard single that gave the Hot Rods a six-run advantage.
With plenty of offense to back him up, Guerrieri cruised through six innings of shutout baseball. Guerrieri allowed just three hits in the start while keeping the Captains off the scoreboard. Lake County's best chance came in the fourth inning with back-to-back singles off Guerrieri before a double play and ground out ended the scoring chance.
Late scoring came in for each team to set Bowling Green's final margin. Coyle hit a two-run homer in the seventh to stretch the lead to 8-0. Luke Maile capped off the Hot Rods scoring with an RBI single that brought Coyle in during the top of the ninth. The Captains scored their only run with two out in the final frame with Joe Sever coming in on a single by Yhoxian Medina.
The Hot Rods and Captains will square off in the series finale at 6:00 PM CDT on Monday at Classic Park. Bowling Green RHP Jeff Ames (5-1, 2.75) is scheduled to pitch against Lake County LHP Ryan Merritt (3-5, 3.50).
