Grizzlies unveil newest concession item

Gateway Grizzlies News Release

The Gateway Grizzlies are proud to announce that they have added another new item to the "Baseball's Best" line of concession items.

"Baseball's Best Slider" utilizes a thin-sliced, steam-grilled, square-shaped burger topped with cheese and grilled onions that is then breaded and deep-fried.

The Grizzlies have added a unique concession item each of the least three seasons, making the Gateway Grizzlies experience at GCS Ballpark about much more than just baseball.

The Grizzlies and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts teamed up last season to create "Baseball's Best Burger." The burger consists of a thick and juicy burger topped with sharp cheddar cheese and two slices of bacon. The burger is then placed in between each side of a Krispy Kreme Original Glazed doughnut. The burger was an instant hit and gained the Grizzlies and Krispy Kreme alike National recognition.

The tradition began in 2004 when Baseball's Best Hotdog hit GCS Ballpark. It consists of a 1/5 pound Farmland 8 inch All Beef Black Angus Hot Dog, topped with two strips of freshly cooked bacon, 1 oz. Sautéed Onions, 1 oz. Sautéed Sauerkraut and ½ oz. Cheddar Cheese Sauce, all on a fresh baked bun.

In 2005, the Swiss Brat was introduced. The "Swiss Brat" is made from a Landshire Bratwurst with a slice of Swiss cheese in the middle of it. 1oz. of Sautéed Sauerkraut is served on top.

The inspiration for this latest creation came from Food Network's George Duran who published a list of food items to deep fry, including a White Castle cheeseburger, in a recent issue of FHM. Duran was more than happy to have the Grizzlies build on the idea and gave the club his full blessing.

"Never could we have envisioned such a response from the burger last year," Grizzlies General Manager Tony Funderburg said. "This is just another way to make Grizzlies games at GCS Ballpark more fun!"

Baseball's Best Slider will debut at GCS Ballpark May 23 when the Grizzlies open their 7th season in the Frontier League. Fans will be able to buy a pair of the deep-fried burgers for $4.00.

Estimates have the meal weighing in at around 600 calories and 40 grams of fat.
