Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Phoenix RoadRunners defeated the Utah Grizzlies 4-3 in a shootout Wednesday night at the E-Center. The Grizzlies still have not lost in regulation, going on ten games now at (2-0-3-5) dating back to January 7. The streak is the longest in the ECHL and the best since Utah joined the league in 2005.
The RoadRunners jumped out to an early lead with a quick goal 23 seconds into the first period. The Grizzlies tied it up at 8:04 of the first with Evan Kotsopoulos adding his 11th of the year.
In the second, Phoenix jumped up 2-1 with a five-on-three power-play goal before Utah's Rob Hennigar extended his scoring streak to eight with his fifth goal of the year. Tim Verbeek and Andy Sertich each picked up assists as the Grizzlies tied the score at two.
Utah took their only lead of the night 19:09 into the second when Verbeek fed Kinasewich for his 17th goal of the year. The Grizzlies lead held until 18:56 into the third when the RoadRunners added a power-play goal.
Tonight was the E-Center debut for newly acquired goaltender and Atlanta Thrashers prospect Dan Turple; giving relief to Mike Mole for the second-straight game. Turple allowed 3 goals on 46 shot attempts by the RoadRunners through overtime. After the game Utah head coach Kevin Colley said, "He made some big saves. I'm happy with the way he played tonight."
Utah and the RoadRunners continue their three-game series Friday and Saturday at the E-Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
