Gateway Grizzlies News Release

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Gateway Grizzlies (10-25) battled back in the later innings Tuesday night, but they left four runners on base in the final two innings and fell, 6-3, to the Evansville Otters (17-16).

The Grizzlies were no-hit by Evansville starter Max Duval for the first 6 1/3 innings of the game before Blake Brown launched his club-leading ninth home run of the season over the left-field wall. Brown is now tied for third in the Frontier League in homers. He also drove in a second run with an eighth-inning single. His 31 RBIs rank third in the league as well.

Gateway left runners on the corners in the seventh, then score twice in the eighth - only to leave runners at second and third. They stranded five for the game, four of whom were in scoring position.

Ja'Vaun West (1-3) battled in his first start of 2017, allowing only three earned runs in five innings while striking out eight.

Evansville scored all six of its runs in the first six innings.

A pair of Grizzlies rookies made their debuts. Max Bartlett started at shortstop and picked up his first professional hit, a line drive into left field in the eighth inning. He came around to score alertly from second on a wild pitch. Jackson Sigman threw two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing only one hit and striking out one.

Next up, the Grizzlies battle the Otters again in the second of a three-game set in Evansville. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. Wednesday and can be heard on the Grizzlies Media Network. Coverage starts at 11:50 a.m.
