Fairbanks Grizzlies News Release

Fairbanks, AK. 02.18.09. Ricky Bertz, General Manager and owner of the Fairbanks Grizzlies, announced the re-signing of Serre Rogers for the 2009 season in addition to the signing of first year player Shaun Hale.

Rogers, who played for the Grizzlies last year in their inaugural season graduated from Ridge View High School in South Carolina before going on to play college football at Catawba College in North Carolina. Prior to last season, Rogers had no previous experience playing pro or semi-pro football and like many of his teammates had to adapt quickly to the speed of playing 8 man indoor football versus the traditional 11 man outdoor game.

At 6'2 and 260 pounds, Rogers posses the size to play multiple positions giving defensive coordinator David Deaton the flexibility to utilize his skills at multiple positions. Rogers has high expectations for the Grizzlies coming into their second season and expects the team to finish the season with more wins than loses this year. Rogers feels with the coaching staff and players on this years roster that the team to be able to provide allot of safe, fun, and positive entertainment for the fans of the Fairbanks Grizzlies and would love to see allot of support for the team from the community.

Hale, who recently moved to Fairbanks with his employer Actus Lend Lease from New York will be entering his first season for the Grizzlies. But at 6'3" tall and 300 pounds the offensive guard/nose tackle will be hard to overlook. Hale graduated from Buckeye High School in Deville, Louisiana where he was a (2) time all-state offensive guard and (3) time all-state defensive tackle in addition to being a (2) time state power lifting champion. After high school Hale attended Northwest Louisiana State University where he played as an offensive guard.

After college football, Shaun went onto play semi-pro football for the Watertown Red & Black in New York for the EFL as a defensive tackle in 2007. The following year he played defensive tackle and nose guard for the Revolution in the NFA before being selected to play in the league's world tournament for Team USA at the end of the 2008 season. Shaun is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities of competing in the IFL and helping the Fairbanks Grizzlies achieve their goal of having a championship season this year.
