Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Reno, Nev. - The Fresno Grizzlies had their season-high four-game winning streak snapped on Sunday after they fell to the Reno Aces 11-2 at Aces Ballpark. The Grizzlies still managed to win the series, 3-1, as Fresno heads home to begin an eight-game homestand on Monday.

The Aces got to Grizzlies starting pitcher Michael Kickham early and often. Two batters into the first inning, Taylor Harbin hit a two-run home run to left field, and later in the frame, Chris Owings, who reached on a missed catch error by Kickham, was driven in by Matt Davidson to make it 3-0 Reno.

In the second inning, Tyler Kuhn hit a leadoff triple to center field. Kuhn scored one batter later on a passed ball by Fresno catcher Jackson Williams.

The Aces scored a pair of runs in each the third and fifth innings. Kuhn added the second run of a two-run fifth inning on an RBI force out.

Kickham's day finished after he threw five innings. The left-hander allowed eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits in the losing decision. He did strike out a season-high seven and did not walk a batter, his first outing this season without issuing a free pass.

The Grizzlies offense, which had 10 or more hits in each of their last seven games, managed eight hits in the loss. Francisco Peguero, Juan Ciriaco, and Juan Perez each had a pair of base knocks. Peguero hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the ninth inning that made it 11-2 Reno.

Kensuke Tanaka drove in the first Grizzlies run with an RBI single in the third inning. It was Tanaka's sixth straight game with a hit.

Reno added three runs in the eighth inning, beginning with Harbin drawing a bases loaded walk issued by Ramon Ramirez. Other runs were added via an RBI force out by Chris Owings and a wild pitch that allowed Tyler Bortnick to score. Ramirez tossed one inning, allowing three walks and throwing a wild pitch.

Brett Bochy and Steve Edlefsen each threw a scoreless inning out of the Grizzlies bullpen. Bochy spelled Kickham to start the sixth inning.

Reno starting pitcher Charles Brewer struck out nine over eight innings in the win. He allowed one run on five hits and no walks.

The Grizzlies committed two errors in the game. Tanaka recorded his team-leading eighth error of the season on a wild throw trying to complete a double play in the third inning.

The Grizzlies begin a four-game series against Highway 99 rivals, the Sacramento River Cats, on Monday at 7:05 pm. Fresno right-hander Boof Bonser will toe the slab and face River Cats left-hander Justin Thomas.
