LANCASTER, Calif. - Evan Grills tossed five strong innings and Nick Tanielu had three hits and two RBI, as the JetHawks salvaged the finale of a three-game series over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 6-3 on Wednesday night at The Hangar.

The JetHawks led from wire to wire. They loaded the bases with nobody out in the second and came away with one run on an RBI fielder's choice by Alejandro Garcia.

Lancaster put up a three-spot in the third. With one out, Garrett Stubbs walked and Ramon Laureano singled. Tanielu followed with his second double of the night to drive them both home. He also scored two runs in the game.

Rancho Cucamonga, after hitting eight home runs in the first two games of the series, blasted two more. All three of their runs in the contest came via the long ball. Yusniel Diaz hit a solo shot in the fourth, his third homer in as many nights. Johan Mieses went deep with a two-run blast in the eighth to cut the Lancaster lead to 5-3.

The JetHawks put up key insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings. After Drew Ferguson led off the seventh with a walk, he and Stubbs executed a perfect hit-and-run to put men on first and third. Laureano followed with an RBI single. In the eighth, Kristian Trompiz drove home Marc Wik with an RBI single. Wik has now hit safely in five straight games.

Riley Ferrell earned his third save of the season in as many attempts with a perfect ninth inning, notching one strikeout.

The JetHawks travel to Adelanto tomorrow night to open a four-game series against the High Desert Mavericks. Dean Deetz (1-0) will start for Lancaster against Collin Wiles (0-1). First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
