Griffins Sign Spady to Tryout

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday signed defenseman Erik Spady to a professional tryout.

A native of Deroche, British Columbia, Spady skated in 34 games with the CHL's Fort Worth Brahmas this season before joining the ECHL's Toledo Walleye. The 23-year-old defenseman recorded 17 points (3-14-17) and 59 penalty minutes in 34 games with Fort Worth and one assist and two penalty minutes in two games with Toledo. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound defenseman is in his second professional season, having recorded 14 points (5-9-14) in 66 games with the CHL's Texas Brahmas in 2011-12. Spady also spent four seasons at Northern Michigan University (2007-11), totaling 20 points (4-16-20) and 110 penalty minutes in 134 games.

Spady will join the Griffins for their game tonight versus the Oklahoma City Barons at 7 p.m. Grand Rapids will also host the Houston Aeros on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
