Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

PEORIA, Ill. - Jordan Pearce sunk the Rivermen in his first career shutout to give Grand Rapids a 3-0 win over Peoria at the Carver Arena, while the Griffins continue a four-game winning streak in the push towards playoffs.

Wrapping up the first of four road games beginning with Peoria (35-24-2-4), the Griffins (30-25-1-8) remain six points behind third-place Toronto and a guaranteed playoff spot. Grand Rapids continues in success, however, winning six of their last seven games and seven of their last nine (7-1-0-2). They look to close the gap as they travel to Oklahoma City on Friday to take on the Barons at 7:05 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center.

A powerplay goal off the stick of Brendan Smith put an end to a scoreless tie with only 21 seconds remaining in the first period giving the Griffins a 1-0 advantage. Both teams battled through the middle frame, but Grand Rapids maintained their lead with critical saves made by Pearce.

Extending the Griffins lead 2-0, Brent Raedeke launched a shot past Jake Allen at 7:24 of the final period. Jamie Johnson was quick to follow with a goal at 12:51 to further the gap 3-0. Pearce assisted Grand Rapids by posting 36 saves in the final of eight match ups against Peoria, while Allen tallied 32 saves.

Three Stars: 1. GR Pearce (W, 36 saves); 2. GR Johnson (1 goal, 1 assist); 3. GR Smith (1 goal)
