Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Las Vegas, NV - John-Ford Griffin hit a grand slam and drove in five as the Las Vegas 51's beat the Sidewinders 12-4 on Saturday night.

Griffin's slam highlighted a five run first inning against Tucson starter Juan Gutierrez. Jason Repko opened the game with a base hit and scored on Xavier Paul's one out RBI single. After John Lindsey walked and Andy LaRoche was hit by a pitch, Griffin hit a high fly ball to right that escaped over the wall for the slam.

Gutierrez suffered his league leading 10th loss of the season. The right-hander lasted just three innings and allowed 10 runs on nine hits.

The Sidewinders were down 10-0 when they finally got on the board in the fourth. Josh Whitesell singled home Jamie D'Antona and Tim Raines, Jr. doubled to score Whitesell.

Robby Hammock homered to right-center in the sixth and Emilio Bonifacio doubled to left to score Donnie Kelly in the seventh.

Jamie D'Antona went 2 for 4 and now leads the PCL with 82 hits. Emilio Bonifacio went 3 for 5 and is second to D'Antona with 81 hits.

Hammock went 2 for 3 to extend his hitting streak to 10.

The Sidewinders and 51's wrap up their four game series on Sunday afternoon at Cashman Field. Right-hander Yusmeiro Petit (2-2, 4.50) starts for Tucson against right-hander Dwayne Pollok (3-1, 3.43) for Las Vegas. First pitch is at 12:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 11:55.
