Grey Named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week

GENEVA, Ill. - Kane County Cougars pitcher Connor Grey has been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for August 28-September 4, the league announced on Tuesday.
Grey pitched a perfect game for the Cougars on Friday, September 1, retiring all 27 batters faced with exactly 100 pitches including eight strikeouts. Not only was Friday the first time a Cougars pitcher has thrown a perfect game, but it was also the first by an Arizona Diamondbacks Minor Leaguer and the first by a Midwest League pitcher since 2004.
Selected in the 20th round of the 2016 Draft, Grey attended St. Bonaventure University in New York where he set the single-season strikeout record, fanning 95 batters in 92 innings of work during the 2016 season. The right-hander earned Pioneer League mid-season All-Star Honors as a member of the Missoula Osprey last season.
The Cougars begin their post-season run tonight as they open the open the best-of-three series on the road against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Perfect Game Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM. Game two will take place at Northwestern Medicine Field on Thursday, September 7 at 6:30 PM and a third "if necessary" game would also take place at home on Friday evening at 6:30 PM. Kane County is looking to bring home their first Midwest League Championship since 2014, vying for the third league championship in franchise history.
