Greenville Pitching Too Much for Braves

Rome, GA - The Greenville Drive, behind strong starting pitching, beat the Rome Braves Friday evening at State Mutual Stadium before 3,039 fans.

The third inning saw Greenville crack the scoreboard with a run scored on a sacrifice fly by Kyri Washington. The Drive added two more runs in the fifth highlighted by an RBI single by Tate Matheny and a double by Josh Ockimey to plate the second run making it a 3-0 game.

Greenville starter Jose Almonte held the Braves hitless and scoreless for six innings. Anyelo Leclerc entered the game in relief in the seventh and Rome's Carlos Castro doubled and later scored on Alejandro Salazar's base hit for the 3-1 score. The Drive bullpen held the Braves at bay for the final two frames to notch the win.

Almonte (1-1) gets the win going six innings allowing no runs or hits while striking two and walking five. Mike Soroka (1-5) is charged with the loss. Bobby Poyner (10) gets the save for Greenville.
