Greenville Groove News Release

Greenville, SC – The 2002 National Basketball Development League (NBDL) Champion Greenville Groove has been allocated 6-6 forward/guard Joe Hamilton. The former Virginia Tech Hokie will join Jamar McKnight, Greg Lewis, and Greg Gray as the fourth Greenville Groove allocated player.

Each NBDL team will be allocated four athletes prior to the start of NBDL training camps. All eight teams in the league will begin training camp with four league allocated athletes. One allocated player must remain on the GrooveÂ’s roster during the entire 2002-2003 season.

“It was great to receive our last allocated player today before the draft on Thursday,” comments Head Coach Tree Rollins. “With the returning players we have from last season’s Championship team and the four allocated guys, Coach Ready and I have a lot of talent to build our team around.”

The native of Mt. Vernon, New York played two seasons at Hiwassee College in Tennessee before moving to Blacksburg, Virginia. Hamilton served as team captain and was named Team MVP and Region VII Player of the Year at Hiwassee. He led the team in scoring and rebounds for both the years he was in Tennessee.

Hamilton was an excellent addition to the Virginia Tech team in 2000, averaging 8.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in 20.8 minutes per game. He hit double figures in points in nine games with the Hokies. During his senior season, he averaged 6.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in 18.5 minutes per game.

The Greenville Groove is set to begin their 2002-2003 season by playing host to the Columbus Riverdragons on Friday, November 15 at the BI-LO Center. The game will begin at 7:00 pm. Groove season passes are now available. Call 864.241.3800 for more information or visit www.greenvillegroove.com.
