Greenville, SC - The Greenville Groove upset top-ranked Fayetteville on January 11th 88-79. The Groove improves to 13-11, while Fayetteville falls to 14-10.
Entering the contest tonight, the Groove had a 0-3 record against Fayetteville in the BI-LO Center. Greg Jones led the team to their first at home victory over the Patriots with 22 points in 23 minutes. Joining Jones in double-figure scoring were Fred Williams (11 points), Kevin Lyde (15 points), Donald Hand (10 points), and Billy Thomas (15 points).
Junie Sanders led the Patriots with 17 points and three rebounds.. Jameel Watkins (15 points) and Devin Brown (12 points) also contributed double-digits for Fayetteville.
Greenville out-shoot Fayetteville 50 percent (34-68) to 37.3 percent (28-75). The Groove also went on a 32-24 run in the fourth quarter to close the game.
Donald Hand went 5-6 from the free throw line, breaking his consecutive free throw streak. He finished with 37 consecutive free throws, a Greenville Groove and NBDL record.
