Hickory Crawdads News Release

HICKORY, NC - The Greensboro Grasshoppers bats awoke to the tune of seven runs on Thursday night, defeating the Hickory Crawdads, 7-3, before 1,818 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium. The 'Dads offense was led by CF Jared Bolden, who had four hits and an RBI on the night.

Greensboro (9-6, 41-44) got on the board early in the top of the first against Crawdads starter RHP Matt Thompson (6-6, 4.06 ERA). After back-to-back singles by CF Jose Duarte and 3B Chase Austin, C Kyle Skipworth skied a fly ball to center field, allowing Duarte to tag and score from third, giving the Grasshoppers a 1-0 lead.

The 'Hoppers added three more runs in the second and two more in the fourth to push their advantage to 6-0 before Hickory began to chip away at the lead.

The Crawdads (7-8, 47-38) loaded the bases against Greensboro starter LHP Edgar Olmos and reliever RHP Erik Carillo with no outs in the bottom of the fifth for Bolden. Bolden proceeded to line a single to center, allowing C Leonel De Los Santos to score from third, cutting the 'Dads deficit to 6-1.

After the Grasshoppers tacked on a final insurance run in the seventh to make it 7-1, the 'Dads attempted a two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth. With the bases loaded and two down, RF Jared Prince smacked a two-run single to right, plating SS Edwin Garcia and LF Joe Bonadonna to bring the Crawdads to within four of Greensboro, 7-3. However, the Grasshoppers halted the rally, holding on to win by the 7-3 final score.

Thompson was handed the loss for Hickory, surrendering six runs on nine hits and a walk with one strikeout in five innings. RHP Ovispo De Los Santos dealt a perfect ninth inning of relief in his first outing for the Crawdads.
