Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (9-6,45-40) began a new series Thursday night against the Columbia Fireflies (5-10 44-41), a team they've mastered lately. Domenic Mazza took to the hill, looking to improve to 3-1 on the season, and win his second consecutive against Columbia, lasting 7.1 in a 3-2 win.
The Fireflies got to Mazza in the first inning, plating two as Eudor Garcia doubled on a fly ball to right fielder Seth Harrison. Jeff Diehl scored and Vicente Lupo singled in the second run, with Eduor Garcia scoring.
After that, it was all Mazza as he limited the Fireflies to just two runs on five hits, striking out 11 and walking just one.
Matt Paré got the start at catcher, and crushed his third home run of the season. Lucius Fox scored the go-ahead run in the 8th when Miguel Gomez hit his 16th double of the year.
Carlos Alvarado nailed down the final three outs, securing his 4th save of the season. The GreenJackets would win 3-2, and win their 7th consecutive game against the Fireflies.
