GreenJackets Shut Out in Matinee

Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets showed up at Lake Olmstead Stadium with a matinee ticket in their hands, but unfortunately for them, their bats had tickets to the primetime feature instead. Augusta was held to just five hits as the West Virginia Power came away with a 7-0 whitewashing of the GreenJackets on Sunday afternoon.
West Virginia starter Colton Cain threw six masterful innings of scoreless, one-hit baseball to set the pace early. Cain (1-0) faced just one over the minimum, with only one walk and five strikeouts.
The Power got on the board in the first inning with an unearned run as a result of a dropped fly ball in right field. They added to the lead in the fifth on Andy Vasquez's RBI triple. Augusta righty Taylor Rogers was solid otherwise, firing five innings and allowing just the two runs - one earned, one unearned - in his second straight loss. Rogers (0-2) gave up four hits and a walk while striking out two.
The floodgates opened off GreenJackets reliever Gaspar Santiago in the sixth as West Virginia led off with back-to-back singles. After Santiago recorded two quick outs, he walked the next two hitters to force in a run and Kevin Mort followed with a two-run single to cap a three-run inning. West Virginia tacked on single runs in each the seventh and ninth innings off GreenJackets relievers.
Four of the five Augusta hits came in the final three innings, but all runners were left stranded. With two on in the ninth, Sundrendy Windster grounded out to end the ballgame.
The GreenJackets will send Justin Schumer (1-1) to the mound on Monday in the series finale in an attempt to salvage a series split with West Virginia. The Power will counter with Zack Von Rosenberg (0-0). First pitch will come at 7:05 with the pregame action beginning at 6:50, airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
Single-game and Season Tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
