Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (36-32) continued their 4-game series with the Lexington Legends (23-44) Friday night, with Domenic Mazza making his home debut for the GreenJackets.
Lexington got on the board in the first inning when Roman Collins led off the game with a triple. He scored on the D.J. Burt single the very next batter. Augusta answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the opening frame, with Jalen Miller starting the inning with a single.
Dylan Davis, Skyler Ewing and Junior Arias all had RBI in the first.
The GreenJackets scored two more in the third inning, when Skyler Ewing walked and Junior Arias reached on a fielding error. This all set it up for Johneshwy Fargas to bring them in on a 2-RBI base hit.
Though the Legends made it a 1-run game in the fifth, Augusta was able to tack on extra runs to keep the game out of reach, and pull out the victory 6-5.
Domenic Mazza earned his first win of the season, lasting 6.0 innings, and striking out three. Ryan Koziol pitched 2.0 innings, and Heath Slatton earned his third save pitching the ninth inning.
The GreenJackets return back to action Saturday night against the Lexington Legends. First pitch is 6:05pm with gates opening at 4:30pm. It's Olympic Night, John Rocker will make an appearance and it's Miracle League Night with a special game starting at 4:30 with players assisting on the field.
The probables for the game are Scott Blewett (3-6, 5.12 ERA) vs Luis Piño (0-0, 9.00 ERA).
The 28th consecutive season of professional baseball in Augusta is underway.
