GreenJackets Fall in Extras

July 7, 2017 - South Atlantic League (SAL1) - Augusta GreenJackets News Release


Augusta, GA-Brandon Brosher hit a one out solo home run in the top of the tenth inning against GreenJackets reliever Patrick Ruotolo to give the Columbia Fireflies a 2-1 over the GreenJackets. Adonis Uceta came on in relief to complete the save in the bottom of the tenth as the GreenJackets dropped the series finale Thursday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The Fireflies took an early lead when Vinny Siena singled to lead off the third. He advanced to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a groundout by Jacob Zanon, and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Andres Gimenez to make it 1-0 Fireflies. The GreenJackets answered in the bottom of the fifth when Sandro Fabian led off with a double. With two outs, he came in to score on a single by Shawon Dunston to tie the game at one.

Melvin Adon turned in a solid outing in his start for the GreenJackets. He gave up only one run off of five hits, struck out five, and walked three in five and two thirds innings of work. His evening ended when the Fireflies has a runner on second with two outs in the top of the sixth. Greg Brody came on in relief and got the GreenJackets out of the jam. He came back out and pitched a scoreless seventh and then recorded an out in the eighth. Sandro Cabrera came on to finish the eighth and pitch a scoreless ninth to help send the game to extras.

The GreenJackets will be back in action Friday night for game one of a four game series with the Asheville Tourists. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm with the gates opening at 6:00pm. It is the first night of Augusta Pirates 80's weekend and will feature an Augusta Pirates Hat Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans into the stadium. It is also Ladies Night presented by The Walking Company, Tin Lizzy's Cantina, Brooks Haven Floral and Flowers LLC, Palm Beach Tan, Pure Barre Augusta, The Swank Company, Barefoot Wine and Refreshers, and Oliviana Ristorante. Kids 12 and under will be able to run the bases after the game.

Caleb Baragar (2-6, 4.86) will start on the mound for the GreenJackets against Alejandro Requena (5-3, 2.79) for the Tourists.
