Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (16-20) and Greenville Drive (18-17) concluded their 4-game series Sunday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
The GreenJackets got major contributions from their offense, putting together 10 runs, 15 hits in a losing effort. In the first inning, already down 1-0, Lucius Fox started his big day with a double, coming around to score on a Dylan Davis single. Gustavo Cabrera also found the scorecard, knocking in Davis with an RBI single to right field. Fox would finish the day a home run short of the cycle.
In the third inning Miguel Gomez homered, his third of the season. The 3-run shot put the Jackets up 5-1. They would add to that with three more in the fifth inning, spraying singles all over the outfield, taking an 8-1 lead. However as fast as the lead grew to seven, it evaporated just as quickly due to the 6-run 6th inning by Greenville, bringing the Drive within one.
Greenville added on a few more runs, before Augusta ultimately took the lead back, 10-9, in the 8th inning. The Drive would take the lead for good in the 9th on a 2-run home run by Joseph Monge.
The GreenJackets return back to action Monday evening for the beginning of a 3-game series with the Asheville Tourists. It's Feed Your Face Monday - Wing Fest edition. First pitch is 7:05pm and gates will open to fans starting at 6:00pm.
The starting pitchers are slated to be Dylan Craig (1-1, 7.84 ERA) versus Michael Santos (2-1, 3.21 ERA).
The 28th consecutive season of professional baseball in Augusta is underway.
