Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Chad Green outdueled Indianapolis Indians southpaw Steven Brault as the RailRiders snuck by the Tribe, 1-0, on Friday night at Victory Field. The Indians mustered up six hits on the night, led by Christopher Bostick and Jason Rogers who each recorded two knocks.
Scranton/W-B (7-7) scored the lone run of the contest in the third inning on a pair of extra-base hits against Brault (0-2). Ruben Tejada opened the frame with a double into the left-field corner, and following a pair of strikeouts, raced home on a two-out, run-scoring triple by Tyler Wade to deep center field.
Brault escaped trouble in the fourth after surrendering consecutive singles ahead of a wild pitch. He picked up his fifth of a season-high nine punchouts for the first out in the inning before inducing weak contact off the bats of Mason Williams and Tejada to keep the deficit at one.
Indianapolis (4-11) had minimal scoring opportunities in the game, with its best threat coming in the eighth. With Green watching from the dugout, the Tribe put runners on the corners against Giovanny Gallegos on hits by Rogers and Max Moroff . Gallegos recovered by striking out Gift Ngoepe and Austin Meadows to end the frame, and he worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save of 2017.
Green (2-1) improved to 2-0 in two career starts against the Indians at Victory Field with six scoreless innings, scattering four hits and one walk with eight strikeouts.
Indy's bullpen combination of Pat Light, Dan Runzler and Edgar Santana tossed three shutout innings. The Indians' pitching staff struck out 13 RailRiders, setting a new season high.
The 1-0 loss marked Indianapolis' second such defeat in 2017 and their third shutout loss overall.
The Indians continue their homestand with game two of their three-game set against Scranton/W-B on Saturday night. Right-hander Josh Lindblom (0-1, 3.27) will start for the Tribe. The RailRiders have not yet named a starter.
