Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA The Washington Wild Things have traded experienced outfielder Chris Grayson to the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League for a player to be named later, according to officials.
Grayson provided an immediate spark to the Wild Things' roster in 2016, being plugged into the middle of the lineup and becoming a staple in center field on a daily basis. On the season, Grayson hit five home runs and stole 18 bases despite only playing 48 games in Washington. The former Texas Rangers' prospect joined the roster a few days before the 2016 All-Star break but between his in-game charisma and memorable walk-up music, Chris left an imprint on the fans who watched him.
General Manager Steven Zavacky noted, "We were happy to provide Chris a platform to continue playing, and we appreciate his efforts to better our outfield in 2016. With Chris unable to return to Washington in 2017, due to league age rules, being able to find him an opportunity in the Atlantic League became a priority to us."
"Playing with (Washington) reignited my love to play centerfield. I just want to play as long as possible. I'm not ready to hang 'em up!" Grayson stated about his time as a Wild Thing and his upcoming opportunity with Somerset.
The Wild Things released the 2017 game schedule Monday. The home opener is slated for Friday, May 19th. Season ticket packages and group packages are now available for purchase at the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office.
