NORFOLK, Nov. 18, 2002 -- Nighthawks kicker Matt McNew has signed a contract with Grand Rapids Rampage (Mich.) of the Arena Football League.
McNew was the 3rd most accurate kicker in af2 in 2002, hitting 62 out of 75 attempts, leaving him with a stellar 82 percent of kicks made. McNew also finished 10th in af2 scoring with 98 points.
"Matt is a tremendously accurate kicker with a very strong leg," said, Nighthawks GM Ken Easley. "After watching him kick last season I knew there was little chance of retaining him for the 2003 season.
"I believe Matt will be very successful in the Arena League and I don¹t doubt we'll see him in get a chance at an NFL job too," Easley said.
Matt becomes the third player this season and the ninth Nighthawk overall to sign a contract with the Arena League.
NIGHTHAWKS TEAM UP WITH URBAN LEAGUE OF HAMPTON ROADS
NORFOLK, Nov. 18, 2002 -- The Urban League of Hampton Roads and the Norfolk Nighthawks have teamed up to sale memberships and season tickets in 2003. For the price of $75, interested fans can purchase an Urban League membership and recieve a Nighthawks season tickets for all 8 home games in 2003.
"We're excited about the opportunity to partner with the Urban League," said Nighthawks GM Ken Easley. "The Urban League is celebrating 25 years of community service in Hampton Roads and it is through grass roots efforts like this that will enable the Nighthawks to grow its base of support."
The Urban League mission statement is "to enable African Americans and others to secure self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights."

NIGHTHAWKS, B & R CHRISTMAS TREES ANNOUNCE PROMOTION
NORFOLK, Nov. 18, 2002 -- The Norfolk Nighthawks in partnership with B & R Christmas Trees will give fans a free 6 to 8 foot Christmas tree if they purchase or renew two Nighthawks season tickets on December 12th from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
B & R Christmas Tree has two locations 3405 Western Branch Blvd, Chesapeake and 509 N. George Washington Hwy also in Chesapeake. If fans can't make it on December 12th to purchase their tree, they can come to any B & R location between November 28th & December 15th and receive 20% off any tree purchase.
