Wausau Woodchucks News Release

Battle Creek - Battle Creek Bombers right fielder Matthew Goodson clubbed two home runs Wednesday as the Bombers defeated the Wisconsin Woodchucks 3-2.

It would be the Bombers getting on the board first for the second consecutive evening as they posted a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. With two outs and a runner on second, Goodson hit a ball to dead center field that cleared the 402-foot sign at C.O. Brown Stadium for a two-run home run.

The Woodchucks would answer the long home run by tying the game in the top of the third. The first three batters would all reach as Brandon Krieg and Austin Diemer recorded back-to-back doubles in front of an RBI single by Jake Jefferies that would tie the game at two runs apiece.

The game would remain tied at two until Goodson's next at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. Goodson, the lead-off batter in the inning, hit a ball to the exact same spot over the centerfield wall for a solo home run, putting the Bombers back on top 3-2.

The two Goodson home runs would be all that Woodchucks starter Danny Young would allow in the game. Young went six innings, allowing just those three runs on five hits while recording four strikeouts on the night. He would receive the loss, however, as the Bombers bullpen limited the Woodchucks to no runs on one hit over four innings to seal the 3-2 victory.

The Woodchucks will head back to Wausau tomorrow for a double-header against the Bombers. The first game will be a continuation of a game started on June 5th in which the Woodchucks led in the top of the second innings. The first pitch for game one will be at 5:05 with game two, which will last seven innings, starting around 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
