LINCOLN - Lindsey Caughel turned in another terrific performance but was out-dueled by Edwin Carl as the Winnipeg Goldeyes (17-16) blanked the Saltdogs (18-15) 3-0 in front of 3,790 fans at Haymarket Park Thursday evening.
Caughel (3-2) pitched seven, allowing one run on four hits while fanning nine and walking two to suffer the hard-luck loss.
Carl (3-2) went eight scoreless, allowing five hits with six strikeouts.
Winnipeg got on the board in the second on a Reggie Abercrombie RBI double.
The Goldeyes created a cushion on a David Rohm two-run laser beam homer in the eighth.
Jailen Peguero pitched a scoreless ninth to book his sixth save.
Rene Leveret went 3-for-4, his second straight night with three hits.
Austin Darby made a spectacular back-handed diving catch near the warning track in right center, sparking a double play to end the top of the ninth.
The 'Dogs open a three-game series at Gary Friday night at 7:10 p.m. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR FM 103.3/1240 AM.
