Portland Pirates forward Philip Gogulla was one of 23 players announced today as members of German's provisional roster for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The men's hockey competition will be held from February 16th-28th.
Gogulla has five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 31 games in this his first season in North America. The 22 year-old Dusseldorf, Germany native, who has previously represented Germany internationally at the World Junior Hockey Championships and the World Championships, was selected 48th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Fellow Pirates forward and German native Felix Schutz was also being considered for the team but was not included on the provisional roster.
The Pirates (16-12-4-2) get back at it Thursday night when the Worcester Sharks visit the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Pirates and the CCCC are proud to bring you the annual Kid's New Year's Game featuring New England's largest indoor fireworks display following the 5:30 pm contest. The UNUM Challenge between the Pirates and Sharks continues with Portland leading the eight-game series 2-0-0-1.
