Atlanta Gladiators News Release

DULUTH, GA - The Gwinnett Gladiators picked up their sixth in a row Sunday afternoon at the Arena at Gwinnett Center, topping Trenton 4-3.

Trevor Kell picked up the first tally of the night at the 8:03 mark in the first period to give Trenton (21-33-6) a 1-0 lead. The Glads (28-25-7) quickly responded on a powerplay goal from Pat Galivan after receiving a centering pass from Akim Aliu. Michael Forney also added an assist, his 40th of the season.

Only 1:36 later Gwinnett took the lead when Andy Brandt earned his 17th tally of the season, making it 2-1 at the end of one despite Gwinnett being outshot 16-9. It took the Gladiators over 12 minutes into the period to pick up their first shot.

Trenton tied the game at two at the 11:34 mark in the second with a goal from forward Ryan Ginand. This would mark his 27th goal of the season.

Gwinnet took back the lead when Dustin Cameron buried a rebound coming from Michael Forney, who picked up his second assist of the night. At the 16:52 mark the Glads were leading 3-2.

With just 31 seconds left in the period Ginand added his second tally of the night to tie the score at three after 40 minutes.

Just 1:18 into the third period a shorthanded unassisted breakaway goal from Akim Aliu gave the Gladiators a lead they would not relinquish. It was Aliu's fifth game-winning goal since January 30th, and his second short-handed marker in as many games.

The Gladiators held on to the lead late thanks to solid goaltending from Chris Carrozzi (26 saves) to wrap up their season series with the Devils. Gwinnett went 5-0-1 against Trenton.

Next on the schedule for the Gladiators is a big weekend series in Elmira this upcoming Friday/Saturday.
