Gladiators Beat Cyclones 4-1

Cincinnati, OH - Pat Bateman scored a pair of goals for the Gladiators to help Gwinnett to a 4-1 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones on Wednesday night at the US Bank Arena. Gwinnett improves to 28-28-6 on the season with the win and remain in 4th place in the ECHL's South Division.

Cincinnati broke the scoreless tie early in the second period with a power play goal. Gerard Miller beat Gladiators netminder Joe Fallon from the left wing point through traffic for the marker. Mac Faulkner added an assist on the Cyclones' goal at 3:47 of the second period.

Gwinnett tied the game up just 45 seconds later on Dirk Southern's 11th goal of the season. Southern slipped into the slot and rolled the puck past Cyclones' netminder Ryan Nie for the Gwinnett goal. Tom Zanoski and Pat Bateman collected the assists on the goal at 4:42 of the second period for Gwinnett.

Bateman's 20th goal of the season with 32 seconds left in the second period gave the Gladiators a 2-1 lead. Bateman snuck past the Cyclones defensemen and beat Nie on a breakaway. Jordan Fox had an assist on the goal for the Gladiators.

Gwinnett took a 3-1 lead on the Cyclones just 30 seconds into the third period on Bateman's second goal of the game. Similar to his first, Bateman slipped the puck past Nie on a break for the goal. Brennan Turner and Southern added the assists on the goal for Gwinnett.

Travis Fuller's 8th goal of the season gave Gwinnett a 4-1 lead at 9:48 of the third period. Fuller worked into the Cincinnati zone with a Cyclones' defenseman draped over him but was able to beat Nie for the marker. Brandon Gentile collected his first professional point adding an assist on the goal for Gwinnett.

Fallon finished with 20 saves in the win for the Gladiators. Gwinnett went 0-for-3 on the power play in the win while giving up one power play goal on three chances to the Cyclones.

The Gladiators continue the 2008-09 season on Thursday, March 19th as they battle the Cincinnati Cyclones at the US Bank Arena at 7:30 p.m. Catch all the play by play action on WDUN, News Talk 550.
