Girl Power to Shine at Dazzle Game on Friday Night

Roanoke, Va., March 16 - The Roanoke Dazzle announce a celebration of "Girl Power" at their game this Friday, March 17 as they host the Austin Toros with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.

Highlighting the numerous events for the night is an appearance by Nickelodeon star "Dora the Explorer." This will mark the second season, in which Dora has appeared at a Dazzle game, with her appearance last season drawing the biggest crowd in Dazzle history. Dora will be entertaining the crowd during the game as well as being available to meet, interact and have pictures taken with fans throughout the night.

Also making an appearance at the game will be WSLS Channel 10 News Anchorwoman Karen McNew. Karen will be appearing on behalf of the Spina Bifida Association of the Roanoke Valley in order to help raise awareness of the birth defect, Spina Bifida.

Along with these appearances, members of Girl Scouts from across South Western Virginia will be attending the game and camping out on the Dazzle court afterwards. The Girl Scouts will have a parade on court prior to the game and will participate in numerous post-game activities which will help build strength of character, leadership and teamwork.

Tickets for Dazzle games are available at the Roanoke Civic Center Box Office or at www.tickets.com. Children age 12 and under and seniors age 55 and over are just $7.50, while adult tickets are $10 and $16.50. Groups of 15 or more people can receive special discounted tickets of just $7.50 per ticket when ordered in advance through the Roanoke Dazzle office by calling (540) 266-1000.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.). The Bakersfield Jam (Calif.) will compete in the league beginning with the 2006-07 season.

The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Forty-two (42) players have been called up to the NBA on 60 separate occasions. Eleven (11) former D-League coaches, six athletic trainers, 14 referees and 30 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The D-League is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
