Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that pitcher Rob Gilliam has been activated from the disabled list, while pitcher A.J. Huttenlocker has been promoted to Class-A Advanced Stockton. Catcher Chris Affinito was recently sent to the A's extended spring training complex in Arizona as well. This morning's transactions keeps the roster at 24 active players as the Cougars open a three-game series in eastern Iowa this evening against the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

Gilliam (8th Rd, 2009) was placed on the disabled list on July 15 and at that time, was tied with fellow starting pitcher Dan Straily for the most starts among Cougars hurlers, and led the club in innings pitched. The righty is 5-6 with a 4.20 ERA in 18 starts this season.

Huttenlocker (44th Rd, 2009) becomes the third member of the Cougars' Opening Day roster to receive a promotion to Stockton (Walton, Marks) and leaves Kane County with a 1-2 record and 3.02 ERA in 28 relief appearances this season. Huttenlocker also spent the latter part of the '09 season as a Cougar, making 13 appearances.

PLAYOFF UPDATE: The Cougars' grip on a second half playoff berth has slipped just a bit within the past week. The team struggled during a recent three-game series against Peoria and have lost five straight games. The Cougars now trail Clinton for the Western Division's top playoff spot in the second half, and hold just a two-game lead over Beloit for the second and final second half playoff berth. Peoria and Wisconsin are within striking distance as well, and the Cougars play 13 of their remaining 20 games against either Beloit, Peoria and Wisconsin, with the regular season ending on September 6. The Cougars are attempting to make the Midwest League playoffs for the sixth time in their eight seasons as an A's affiliate.
