Gibbons, Stars Win Third Straight over Generals

JACKSON, TENN. (MAY 9, 2012) - For the first time since April 9, the Generals are in a first place tie atop the Southern League North standings. Huntsville won their third straight over Jackson Wednesday afternoon, 4-2 at Pringles Park, winning the series. Since losing the opener Huntsville (20-14) has won three straight over the Generals (20-14) who have now dropped back-to-back series'.

Former Baltimore Orioles outfielder Jay Gibbons was 4-for-4, with two doubles and three RBI for Huntsville Wednesday. The Generals were held to just five hits for the second straight day. Huntsville starter Kyle Heckathorn allowed two runs on four hits over eighth inning, striking out eight and walking none in the outing.

Huntsville's Hunter Morris started the scoring with two outs in the first on an RBI double to left-center scoring Kentrail Davis. Eric Campbell drove in Francisco Martinez with a double in the bottom of the third tying the game at 1-1.

With Jackson trailing 2-1 in the fourth Ralph Henriquez singled in Chris Pettit evening the score, but that was the last run the Generals pushed across.

Jay Gibbons singled in a run in the sixth and doubled in a run in the eighth to give the Stars the decisive margine of 4-2.

Jackson starter Taijuan Walker (3-2) suffered his second straight loss giving up two runs on four hits over four innings. Walker struck out four and walked two in his shortest outing of the season.

The Generals wrap up the five-game series Thursday night at Pringles Park against the Huntsville Stars, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. RHP Brandon Maurer (2-0, 3.55) will take the mound for Jackson against RHP Josh Stinson (3-1, 4.15) for Huntsville. Thursday is Dollar Night, presented by MobileNation and a post game concert will be held by Justin Reid.
