San Antonio - The San Antonio Missions have announced their coaches and staff for the 2013 season, but their managerial search begins as John Gibbons was named the Toronto Blue Jays manager this morning. Jimmy Jones will return to be the pitching coach and Jacque Jones was named hitting coach.

Gibbons, a San Antonio native, returned to his hometown last season as the Missions skipper guiding San Antonio to a 60-80 record. Gibbons was set to return to San Antonio for a second season, before being named the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays this morning.

Gibbons also managed the Toronto Blue Jays for 610 games over parts of five seasons, posting a 305-305 record. He is the third-winningest manager in Blue Jays history behind Cito Gaston (894 wins) and Bobby Cox (335 wins). Prior to joining the Padres organization, he was the bench coach for the Kansas City Royals from 2009-11. Gibbons attended San Antonio's MacArthur High School and was the 24th overall pick of the first round by the New York Mets in 1980.

Jimmy Jones has been tabbed as the Missions pitching coach for the third straight season, his fifth overall in the San Diego organization. Prior to joining San Antonio, he was the pitching coach for the Padres Rookie League team in Arizona in 2009-10 after spending the prior eight years as the head coach for the Coram Deo Academy in Flower Mound, TX. Jones began the 2012 season with the Missions but joined the Padres staff midway through the season to finish out the year as their bullpen coach.

The Dallas, TX native was drafted third overall by San Diego in 1982 and played eight Major League seasons with the Padres (1986-88), New York Yankees (1989-90), Houston Astros (1991-92) and Montreal Expos (1993).

Former Major League outfielder Jacques Jones will be in his first season as the Missions hitting coach and his second in the San Diego organization. He served in the same capacity last season for the Fort Wayne TinCaps, the Padres Low-A affiliate in the Midwest League.

Jones played 10 big league seasons with the Minnesota Twins (199-2005), Chicago Cubs (2006-07), Detroit Tigers (2008) and Florida Marlins (2008). Jones, a native of San Diego, CA, hit 165 career home runs with 630 RBI in 1,302 games. He played collegiately at the University of Southern California where he was a third-team All-American in 1996 and also a member of the U.S. Olympic Baseball squad.

Daniel Turner has been named as the team's athletic trainer. Turner is in his fourth year as an athletic trainer in the Padres organization and his first in San Antonio after spending the previous three seasons in Fort Wayne. The Orcutt, CA native graduated from San Diego St. University in 2009 with a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology.

Derek Cantieni is returning for his second season as the Missions strength and conditioning coach and third in the San Diego organization. Before joining San Antonio, he served in the same role for the Lake Elsinore Storm, the Padres High-A affiliate in the California League.

Prior to joining the Padres, the Freemont, CA native spent five seasons at the University of San Diego where he was the strength coach for 16 varsity sports.
