Vancouver Giants News Release

Vancouver, B.C. - Mason McCarty scored twice to lead the Saskatoon Blades to a 3-1 win over the Vancouver Giants on Wednesday evening at the Langley Events Centre. The loss snapped a four game winning streak for the G-Men who got their lone goal from Thomas Foster.

Tyler Benson came close to opening the scoring in the first period when Foster sprung him in on a breakaway with a pretty stretch pass, but Benson's shot hit the post. Josh Paterson thought he had given the Blades a 1-0 lead in the late stages of the frame, but the goal was disallowed after it was ruled he had kicked the puck into the net in the crease.

McCarty opened the scoring on a power play after the midway mark of the second period, wiring a wrist shot past Vancouver goalie Ryan Kubic from the top of the left circle after the Blades won an offensive zone face-off. Foster evened the score for the Giants less than two minutes later, scoring from the slot after Benson found him with a pass from behind the net. Jesse Shynkaruk bagged the eventual game winning goal with under two minutes remaining in the middle frame.

McCarty added his second of the night on a power play in the first minute of the third period.

The shots finished even at 32-32. Vancouver went 0-for-2 on the man advantage while the Blades were 2-for-5 on their power play.

Vancouver returns to action against the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm. For tickets, click here or call 604.4.GIANTS (604.444.2687).
