Giants Begin Three-Game Series Against Bakersfield Tonight The San Jose Giants return home this evening to open a three-game series against the Bakersfield Blaze. Jordan Johnson is slated to make the start on the mound for the Giants tonight. Johnson is 8-9 with a 5.53 ERA in 21 starts this season and leads the San Jose staff with 103 strikeouts.

Final Homestand This evening marks the beginning of San Jose's final homestand of the regular season. Following the current three-game set against Bakersfield, the Giants host the Visalia Rawhide in a four-game series from Friday-Monday to close out the regular season.

In Search Of Winning Season The Giants (67-66) need at least a 4-3 record over their final seven games to extend their league-record streak of consecutive winning seasons to 13. San Jose last had a losing season in 2003.

Road Trip Review The Giants posted a 2-4 record during their final road trip of the season. San Jose dropped two out of three games in Bakersfield to begin the trip before also losing two out of three to Visalia last weekend. The Giants have still not won a regular season series at Visalia's Recreation Park since the 2013 season (won three of four games from April 4-7, 2013). San Jose finishes the regular season with a 33-37 road record (20-15 first half, 13-22 second half).

Playoff Chase If the season ended today, the Giants would garner the #3 seed in the North Division as the Wild Card team (11 games ahead of Modesto and 12 games ahead of Stockton with seven to play). San Jose though cannot clinch a playoff spot until both the Nuts and Ports are eliminated from second half title contention (Modesto 5 GB, Stockton 7 GB). The Giants (28-35) are also seven games behind Bakersfield (35-28) in the second half North Division race. San Jose has made the playoffs in 11 out of the last 12 years.

Familiar Foe The Giants have already played three series' against Bakersfield this month - all at Sam Lynn Ballpark (6-4 record). By the end of the current series, San Jose will have played 19 games versus the Blaze in the second half. To date, San Jose is 12-11 versus the Blaze this year, but just 3-7 at Muni. This series serves as Bakersfield's final regular season visit ever to Municipal Stadium as the Blaze franchise will cease operations at the end of the season.

Home Run Barrage Despite going homerless in their last two games, the Giants have hit a whopping 30 home runs over their last 16 games overall. San Jose has hit a league-high 37 home runs in August - their highest monthly home run total since August of 2011 (40 HR). The Giants' 125 home runs this season rank fourth in the California League and is tops among all North Division teams. San Jose has hit the fourth-most home runs in Giants history. The top four single-season home runs totals in SJ Giants history (1988-2016): 1. 143 HR (2005), 2. 139 HR (2011), 3. 126 HR (1999), 4. 125 HR (2016).

More Dingers Individually, Dylan Davis has hit nine home runs over his last 17 games (.333 AVG, 21 RBI's during 17-game stretch) and has hit a team-leading 18 home runs in just 57 games with the Giants this season. He's averaging one home run every 12.6 at-bats with San Jose. Davis is slightly ahead of Jonah Arenado (17 HR) for the team home run lead. Additionally, T.J. Bennett has smacked eight home runs in August (.353 AVG) while Miguel Gomez has connected for six home runs this month.

Pitching Struggles Giants pitching struggled during the just-completed road trip compiling a 9.06 team ERA while allowing 10 or more runs in three out of the six games. San Jose starting pitchers owned a 12.91 ERA (33 ER/23.0 IP) over the course of the trip. The Giants possess a league-worst 6.45 team ERA in August. San Jose's 5.74 ERA since the beginning of July is also last in the league. The Giants have set a team record for most home runs allowed in a season (125).

Opponent Notes: Bakersfield Blaze The Bakersfield Blaze, an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, are currently four games ahead of Visalia for first place in the second half North Division standings. The Blaze lead the league in ERA (3.89) and are fourth in runs scored (5.3 per game). Bakersfield has a league-best 39-24 road record. Blaze first baseman Kyle Petty is second in the league in batting average (.326). Tonight's starter Tyler Pike is fourth in the league in strikeouts (119) and eighth in ERA (4.19).
